London’s best fish & chips is my takeaway from The Golden Chip

If you’re taking the Elizabeth Line from Heathrow to Central London, hop off at Hanwell Station for the best fish & chips in London.

It’s a 8-minute walk from the station to The Golden Chip, where takeaway orders are prepared by within earshot of local legend Argiros Agapiou.

“You have to listen to what you do,” says Agapiou.

As there is no seating inside this chippy. If you don’t live or work in the area you will need to improvise:

You can ask the Golden Chip to box your order to carry your fish and chips to your car, to a bench in a nearby park, or to the foot of the Hanwell Clocktower.

Boxes are great for takeaway fish & chips, if you don’t mind spuds going a little soggy.
The base of the Hanwell Clocktower provides seating on three steps for al fresco fish & chips.

Or you can ask for your fish & chips to be left open, wrapped in paper, and eat it on the go, either with a chip fork or your fingers.

As a wrapping for fish & chips, unprinted parchment paper (above) or printed greaseproof paper has replaced newspaper, which was banned under the 1990 Food Safety Act.
