Two scenes from the corner of The Bowery and Grand Street
A curvy young woman and a sturdy old woman elicited double takes at two Lower East Side institutions no longer in operation.
A waitress turns heads at Moisha’s Luncheonette
Reminiscing about the latkes at the dearly departed Moisha's Luncheonette, I was reminded of a visit to that Lower East Side luncheonette over 30 years ago with my good friend, the journalist and tradesman Steven Forbis.
Our waitress that day was a blond bombshell - maybe the next Lana Turner waiting to be discovered from behind a soda fountain counter.
We ordered our chocolate egg creams but, at a loss for words, took the conversation no further. A more confident salesman type did approach the waitress and made a pitch, apparently to no avail. Steve was curious.
"What's the deal with her?” Steve asked the salesman.
"Why don't you try to make your own deal?" shot back the salesman, without missing a beat.
